Automotive Engineering Manager

Location: sydney
Salary: $170000 per annum
Job Type: permanent
Contact: Alan Claire
I am working with one of Australia's leading financial services institutions to help them create a new team in a highly specialised area of their business.

This role leads the Automotive Research Team, providing the organisation's primary source of automotive engineering intelligence across vehicle risk assessment, emerging technology analysis, OEM relationship management, expert claims authority, and workforce safety standards. The role translates deep automotive engineering expertise into structured intelligence that informs underwriting and pricing decisions, protects the workforce from emerging technology risks, and enables them to defend technically complex claims with credibility. The Engineering Manager operates as their senior technical interface with the automotive industry, maintaining relationships with OEM leadership and representing them within international automotive insurance research networks.

To be a strong candidate for this role you will need

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering discipline directly relevant to the automotive domain (Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Automotive Engineering or Electrical/Electronic Engineering.)
  • Minimum 8 years' experience in the automotive industry, with demonstrated exposure to vehicle design, OEM aftersalesaftersales operations, automotive compliance, or automotive insurance research.
  • Demonstrated experience managing external stakeholder relationships at director or senior management level within OEMOEM, Tier 1 supplier or automotive research organisations.
  • Working knowledge of electric and hybrid vehicle architecture, including high-voltage systems, battery management, ADAS integration and the repair and safety implications of these technologies.
  • Working knowledge of vehicle repair practices, parts supply chain structures and the intersection of vehicle design with insurance risk and repair economics.
  • Experience producing technical reports or expert opinions for regulatory, legal or dispute resolution purposes.
  • Project management experience, including the ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple concurrent workstreams.
