Head of Marketing Performance
Melbourne | Permanent, full time
Six Degrees Executive is partnering with a large, well-recognised Victorian organisation to appoint its first Head of Marketing Performance. This is a newly created leadership role for a commercially minded media and performance specialist.  Our client delivers essential services relied on by millions of Victorians, processing millions of online transactions each year alongside a statewide network of customer service centres.  The organisation is midway through a significant transformation, backed by substantial investment to modernise its systems and digital technology, streamline services and introduce innovation. Recent years have seen the launch of new app-based and online services, and work is underway to expand digital self-service and grow a portfolio of commercial consumer products. Marketing has a central role to play in this next phase, and investment in performance capability is a clear signal of that.

The opportunity
The organisation markets a varied portfolio. It includes e-commerce products with distinct audiences and purchase journeys, need-driven digital products in competitive markets, and programs that encourage customers to adopt digital services. Campaigns already run across the funnel with the support of an external media agency. The next step is to bring a more consistent, evidence-led approach to how investment is structured, measured and optimised.  Reporting to the Group Head of Marketing, you’ll lead a team of two and oversee around $5 million in annual media investment. The initial focus is firmly on media and digital performance, with scope for the remit to grow into broader marketing effectiveness and lifecycle measurement as those capabilities develop.

What you’ll do
  • Build a shared, transparent view of performance by bringing agency attribution, platform reporting and web analytics into one clear framework, so the business knows what each source means and what action it calls for.
  • Turn business objectives and budgets into media strategy, recommending how to allocate spend across channels, audiences and funnel stages, and advising candidly on where more investment will and won’t pay off.
  • Review campaign structures, audience overlap, creative sequencing and retargeting to reduce duplication and cannibalisation, and embed a disciplined test-and-learn approach.
  • Own the media agency relationship, including the contract, governance and performance expectations. Challenge recommendations, drive proactive optimisation and assess where selected capabilities could be brought in-house.
  • Coach and develop two Media Performance Managers, building their analytical and commercial confidence and establishing consistent ways of working.
  • Work with Product and CRO teams to find where site experience is holding back results, and explore new channels, GEO, AI advertising and automation in practical ways that sharpen insight.

What you’ll bring

  • Substantial experience in performance marketing, media investment or marketing effectiveness, with a track record of improving business outcomes across a varied portfolio.
  • A hands-on relationship with data. There is no dedicated analyst in the team today, so you’ll be comfortable working through spreadsheets, finding patterns and testing assumptions yourself.
  • A strong grasp of attribution, platform reporting and web analytics, and the ability to explain why sales, spend and attribution don’t always move together, in plain commercial language.
  • Sound financial judgement across budget allocation, forecasting and scenario planning, including knowing when the evidence supports a forecast and when it doesn’t.
  • Confidence managing agencies and influencing senior stakeholders, including pushing back when a request isn’t supported by the evidence.
  • Experience leading a small team with a collaborative style that builds trust across functions.
  • Exposure to ecommerce, complex consumer portfolios, regulated environments or behaviour change is highly regarded, as is experience in CRM, lifecycle marketing or advanced measurement.

Why this role

This is a chance to shape a new function from the ground up, with genuine ownership of investment decisions and a direct line to senior leadership. The role sits at a point where the organisation is modernising its customer experience and expanding its digital and commercial offerings. The successful candidate will move comfortably between detailed performance analysis and senior commercial conversations.
