Finance Manager

Location: melbourne
Salary: Competitive salary on offer, great flexibility
Job Type: permanent
About the company
Our client is a global healthcare organisation with a strong presence in Australia and New Zealand. Over the past 18 months, the Australian business has more than tripled its product portfolio, with further launches planned. The local operation focuses on sales and distribution, with manufacturing and research and development based overseas. With continued growth expected over the coming years, the business is investing in its finance function to support sound commercial decision-making.

About the role
Reporting to the Head of Finance ANZ and acting as their second-in-command, the Finance Manager will hold end-to-end responsibility for financial reporting, compliance and planning across the Australian and New Zealand business. In 2027, transactional processing will transition to a group shared service centre, allowing the finance team to place greater focus on analysis and business partnering.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading the month-end and year-end close, including accruals, reconciliations, gross margin and P&L reporting
  • Streamlining the close process and improving the sales reconciliation process
  • Redesigning manual Excel reports to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Managing the annual budget, rolling forecasts and long-range planning, along with analysis and commentary for monthly business reviews
  • Partnering with business unit heads, the General Manager and HR on performance, investment and priorities
  • Coordinating statutory reporting, the external audit, and income tax, GST, FBT and payroll tax compliance, working with group tax and external advisers
  • Reviewing the Finance Assistant’s balance sheet reconciliations, journals and GST/NZ BAS returns
  • Leading internal control self-assessments and ensuring accurate reporting from SAP into group consolidation
  • Providing leadership coverage for the Head of Finance ANZ as required
About you
You will be a qualified Chartered Accountant (CPA candidates will also be considered), ideally with two to three years’ experience in a Big 4 or mid-tier firm before moving into a commercial role. You will have hands-on experience across the month-end close, statutory reporting and tax compliance, along with exposure to budgeting and forecasting.
You will bring advanced Excel skills and the ability to redesign inefficient reports promptly. You will be commercially minded and curious about the drivers behind a variance, with the confidence to communicate findings clearly to senior leaders. Experience with SAP is an advantage. Industry experience is not a requirement, as your core accounting skills will transfer readily. Most importantly, you will be ambitious and motivated to progress into the Head of Finance role over time.

Why join
This role offers a clear succession pathway to the senior finance position within a growing business. You will join a global organisation that holds an annual regional finance summit and offers potential international mobility across its offices worldwide.

The role is offered on a hybrid basis, with three days in the Melbourne office and two days from home, during standard business hours of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Occasional evening calls with the European head office may be required around month-end.
