As a part of Visit Victoria, Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) leads the acquisition and delivery of national and global business events for Melbourne and regional Victoria. This is achieved through partnering with the Victorian State Government, City of Melbourne, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, and over 120 private enterprise partners. MCB has more than 50 years of experience in securing business events for Melbourne with local and global teams dedicated to business development, bidding and sales, convention servicing, marketing, and partnerships.
About the role
Reporting into the GM - Sales, the successful candidate will be responsible for imbedding MCB and business events as key drivers of economic and social outcomes for Victoria. They will be responsible for identifying and developing relationships within State Government, City of Melbourne and key personnel within organisations and academia to align business events acquisition to State Government’s priorities and to maximise them to drive to drive Victoria's trade facilitation and to position Victoria as the gateway to global economies and communities. This role will also be responsible for leading a high performing business development team.

Skills & Experience
To be considered, you will have significant experience gained within a similar business development role, either within a commercial organization or government. You will be a strategic thinker with demonstrated ability to identify and develop business opportunities coupled with strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills. You will present with demonstrated knowledge of the workings of the Victorian Government, including the role of Ministers and their Offices and media relations and have a passion for leading high performance sales teams.

- Develop and maintain a high degree of knowledge of Government priorities and policies, through own research, stakeholder meetings and media monitoring
- Conceptualisation and execution of a strategic engagement plan with the Victorian State Government and other industry stakeholders to embed business events as a key driver of economic and social outcomes
- Management of key stakeholder relationships to raise awareness of MCB and assist with the procurement of local hosts and financial underwriters essential to develop international bidding opportunities
- Manage MCB’s relationship with the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre and Melbourne Ambassador Program with regards to lead development
- Engage State Government and key sector industry leaders to identify key bidding opportunities to ensure strong and vested interested in the events, exhibitions, and conferences
- Explore international events opportunities including both existing meetings or to build new events specific to government strategic priorities
