The Business

Our client is a leader in their field, providing significant industrial services in metro and regional locations Australia-wide. With a customer base that ranges from major national accounts (Government, Mining/ Resources Construction, Retail, Transport & Logistics) through to state and localised accounts (Education, Councils, Healthcare, Agriculture, Manufacturing), there is significant variety within the day to day coupled with opportunity for greater growth and expansion. Sustainability and “creating a better future” for their customers, their employees and their communities is core to our client’s mission which will also see the business continually evolve in its technologies, business practices and service offerings. With recent changes to their Executive Leadership Team, this business is now on a journey of positive change with significant investment into their people and culture. It is therefore a fantastic time for a highly motivated and commercially astute individual to join their team in this critical leadership role within their largest business unit which has seen significant growth, both organic and through acquisition.

The Role

Reporting to an impressive & highly experienced General Manager who leads the largest business unit, the Regional Manager will be responsible for leading a $100M+ business with 140 employees and a large fleet of heavy vehicles and a broad cross-section of Commercial & Industrial customers ranging from large national accounts, mid-market down to SME's. The role is responsible for maximising the revenue stream and profitability, leading operational growth and footprint expansion within the region (including the identification of potential acquisitions for the M&A team), ensuring sustained governance and compliance around safety, ensuring strong ROI on invested capital and bringing a modern, contemporary leadership style that continues to build an inclusive and diverse culture with metrics around engagement, retention and development for succession planning purposes.

Given the scale and complexity of the broader business, a key element in the success of the role will be influencing a broad range of stakeholders from executive level through to other divisions and support functions across the full value chain. Visible leadership of a large blue collar workforce, ensuring safety is embedded within the culture and daily operations is critical, as is the increasing focus on diversity and inclusion, care and respect, engagement and retention whilst balancing the need to deliver financial results in an environment of rising supplier and labour costs hence strong IR skills and experience negotiating EBA's will be important.

The Person

We are looing for a polished, modern leader who demonstrates strong EQ and focus on people, culture, diversity & engagement with experience managing a P&L within a heavy (fleet based) operational environment with a high degree of complexity. Industries that we are targeting include transport and logistics, waste and environmental services, industrial services and industrial manufacturing, eg steel & building materials (again, needing experience leading transport / fleet based operations). Needless to say, the role requires outstanding commercial and financial acumen, a strong track record delivering both top line and bottom line growth, operational excellence, an exceptional track recod of safety leadership, higher level strategic capability along with the proven ability to be across the daily, weekly & monthly cadence and analysing data quickly. Your track record will include consistently building high performance cultures in large, Tier 1 brands where best practice becomes the normal operating rythym

This is an exceptional career opportunity in a leading ASX Listed, high profile business that is investing in people, culture, growth and focusing heavily on diversity, inclusion, engagement and retention. There will be ample opportunity for career development as the business grows organically and via acquisition.
