The Director, Finance, Rates and Investment is a key role within Council. Accountable for financial leadership and stewardship, you will partner across CoM to provide proactive and expert advice and oversight of all finance areas including financial and statutory accounts, taxation, financial risk management and finance business partnering. 
 
Delivering a best practice function, you will have an impact through providing strategic advice on short and long-term financial strategies that empower leaders to ethically and effectively manage their resources to respond to Council’s priorities. You are a confident leader and work with your teams to drive improvements that enable efficiencies within your team and the broader organisation.
 
Specifically, your role will include but not be limited to:
  • Providing support to the Chief Operating Officer to deliver commercial outcomes which will ensure a strong financial future for Council
  • Developing the financial strategy, budgeting and planning processes to deliver medium and long term outcomes
  • Overseeing the preparation of all financial reporting including the annual report
  • Ensuring appropriate funding and cashflow to support current and future capital investment
  • Continue to shape and develop the business partnering model within the finance function to ensure appropriate support for stakeholders
  • Driving continuous business improvement across systems, policy and procedures
  • Leading your team members with purpose, with culture and values at the heart of everything you do
  • Being a management representative on Council’s Audit & Risk Committee
To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate proven experience in leading diverse, multidiscipline teams in complex environments.  You will bring your natural coaching and mentoring style in addition to prior success in enhancing team performance and delivering high quality outcomes. With highly developed analytical skills and strong lateral thinking, you will use your initiative to drive change and deliver improved commercial and operational efficiencies.  Comfortable working in a complex and political environment, you possess excellent interpersonal skills which allow you to successfully negotiate and persuade whilst using high levels of discretion at all times.
