ABOUT: 

We are excited to be recruiting for a leading Queensland State Government department seeking an experienced AO6 Senior Media Advisor to join their team on a contract basis. This is an exciting newly created role working within an excellent team with great work/life balance

The Senior Media Advisor is a key position within the Strategy and Governance team, responsible for managing and coordinating all media-related activities, media communications, and media administration efforts.

This role plays a pivotal part in shaping and executing the organisation's public image and information dissemination strategies. The Senior Media Advisor will work closely with the Strategic Engagement and Community Education team, subject matter experts, external partners and media outlets to ensure that the department's messages and information are communicated effectively and in alignment with its mission and goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Media Strategy Development: Develop and implement comprehensive media strategies in alignment with the department's mission and objectives.

Media Relations: Foster and maintain strong relationships with members of the media, including reporters, editors, and other relevant stakeholders.

Media Monitoring: Monitor media coverage related to the department's activities, initiatives, and policies to ensure accuracy and proactively address any issues.

Content Creation: Oversee the creation and distribution of media releases, media advisories, and other written materials to promote the department's initiatives.

Media Training: Provide media training and support to department staff and officials to enhance their communication skills and responsiveness to media interview requests.

Media Events: Plan, coordinate, and manage media events, such as media conferences, interviews, and briefings.

Performance Metrics: Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the effectiveness of media campaigns and strategies.

Media Administration: Maintaining media registers, the media inbox, key message documents and associated administration tasks.

Qualifications (Preferrable):
  • Bachelor's degree in Media, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
  • At least one -two years minimum of professional experience in media relations, public relations, as a journalist or in communications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute media strategies.
  • Experience with crisis communication and issues management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with media professionals.
  • Knowledge of government operations and policies is a plus.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
