The Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC) released its sixth annual industry snapshot this month which gave a comprehensive overview of how the FMCG sector is currently performing.
Despite challenging conditions FMCG had improved on its export volumes and there was also a slight increase in overall turnover for the industry. The rise in exports has been attributed to the demand for Australian meat and dairy and there has been a noticeable improvement in how the sector was innovating with a strong representation of FMCG businesses in the BRW’s Top 50 most innovative companies, namely CCA, Birch & Waite and Pernod Ricard Winemakers.
The challenge however has been jobs. Despite the improvements in the sector another 2,500 jobs have disappeared from the industry and unfortunately this trend looks set to continue with faster sector growth needed to help generate a net increase in jobs.
